Sanjauli Mosque Committee Proposes Demolition of Illegal Portion Amid Heavy Police Deployment in Shimla for Peace
Sep 12, 2024, 09:50 AM
The Sanjauli Mosque in Shimla has become the center of a controversy, with the mosque's management committee proposing to demolish an illegal portion of the structure if found unlawful. Heavy police forces have been deployed in Shimla to maintain order. The proposal came from the president of the Sanjauli Masjid Management Committee and Maulvi Shahjad, who, along with other members, submitted a written representation to the Nagar Nigam requesting the sealing of the disputed portion. Mufti Mohammad Shafi Kasmi of the Mosque Committee stated that the illegal part should be temporarily closed and assessed by the corporation and relevant authorities. The decision has been welcomed by Hindu protestors, and the Shimla Vyapar Mandal organized a bandh from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in protest against police actions. The Waqf Board and Mosque Committee have also met with the Chief Minister to present their proposal. The committee emphasized that the decision was taken for peace and brotherhood and agreed to comply with the court order.
