Explosion Damages Ibër-Lepenc Canal in Northern Kosovo, Threatening Power; PM Kurti Blames Serbia for 'Terrorist Attack'
Nov 30, 2024, 12:36 AM
An explosion near the Serbian border has damaged the Ibër-Lepenc canal in northern Kosovo, threatening the country's electricity supply, local authorities said. The incident occurred in Zubin Potok, damaging critical infrastructure described by Prime Minister Albin Kurti as "perhaps the country's most important infrastructure." The canal, which supplies water to Kosovo's main coal-fired power plants, was targeted in what Kurti called a "terrorist attack." He alleged that Serbia supported the groups responsible, stating, "Our government will hold those responsible." This marks the third explosion in northern Kosovo in as many days, targeting vital infrastructure including water supply and electricity production. Kurti warned that if the canal is not repaired promptly, parts of Kosovo could face electricity shortages from early morning.
