Oct 29, 2024, 08:37 PM
Atlanta police and SWAT teams responded to an active shooter situation at the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown Atlanta on October 29. A 70-year-old man, identified as Jay Stevens Berger, barricaded himself inside his apartment on the residence side of the building and fired multiple shots from various weapons, including a handgun, shotgun, and rifle. The incident prompted a lockdown of the hotel and surrounding streets. The suspect was seen wearing a mask and reportedly threw objects, including a handgun and knives, from the balcony. After a standoff, police breached the room and took the suspect into custody alive. No injuries were reported among civilians, but an Atlanta Police Department officer was injured during the incident. Authorities stated that the suspect may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
