IDF Admits Failure in Preventing August 15 Settler Attack by 100 in West Bank
Aug 28, 2024, 05:17 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have released the findings of an investigation into a violent attack by Israeli settlers on the Palestinian village of Jit in the West Bank on August 15. The attack, which involved around 100 settlers, was described by IDF Central Commander Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth as the worst Jewish terror event ever. The investigation revealed that the Shin Bet had provided prior intelligence warning of potential nationalistic violence, but the IDF and police failed to act decisively to prevent the incident. The first troops at the scene did not respond as expected, leading to the dismissal of two IDF members. The attack resulted in the death of one Palestinian, and the IDF has acknowledged its failure to protect civilians, amid growing international pressure on Israel to address such violence.
