Fire at Bangladesh Secretariat Building No. 7 on December 26 Claims Firefighter's Life, Under Control After Six Hours by 19 Units
Dec 26, 2024, 03:27 AM
A fire broke out early on December 26 at Building No. 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, impacting several ministries, including youth and sports, telecom, and local government. The blaze was brought under control after approximately six hours of efforts by 19 units of the Fire Service. Tragically, a firefighter died after being struck by a truck while working to extinguish the flames. The incident has prompted the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the cause of the fire, with initial assessments suggesting the possibility of foul play. Local government adviser Asif Mahmud expressed that those responsible for any potential sabotage would not be spared. The fire caused extensive damage to the building, but the full extent of the losses is yet to be determined. Following the incident, security has been heightened around the Secretariat, with army and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel deployed to manage access.
