U.S. Capitol Police Arrest Telecommunications Employee Hari R. Chanamolu for Reckless Driving on Sidewalk Near Capitol
Jan 2, 2025, 04:31 PM
U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man after he drove a vehicle onto a sidewalk along Maryland Avenue, NW, and into a grassy area near Peace Circle, close to Constitution Avenue and Third Street, NW, in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred just before 9:50 a.m. on Thursday. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Hari R. Chanamolu from Georgia, was charged with reckless driving. He was a telecommunications employee intending to perform work in the area. The bomb squad cleared the vehicle, and it was determined not to pose a threat to the Congress or Capitol Grounds. The incident led to temporary road closures and heightened security measures in the area, coming a day after a terrorist attack in New Orleans that killed 15 people.
