D.C. Sues Amazon for Excluding Predominantly Black Wards from Prime Delivery Since 2022
Dec 4, 2024, 04:04 PM
On Wednesday, the District of Columbia's Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Amazon, accusing the company of "secretly" excluding two predominantly Black and low-income ZIP codes in Wards 7 and 8 from expedited Prime delivery services since 2022. Despite charging approximately 50,000 residents in these areas the full Prime subscription price, Amazon allegedly failed to provide the promised fast delivery benefits. The lawsuit asserts that Amazon violated consumer protection laws by misleading customers and making slower deliveries to Prime members in historically lower-income neighborhoods. Amazon responded by stating that it switched to using third-party delivery services in these areas after experiencing "targeted acts" against its drivers.
