DC Sues Amazon for Slower Prime Deliveries to Black Neighborhoods Since 2022
Dec 4, 2024, 05:35 PM
The District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit against Amazon, accusing the e-commerce giant of secretly excluding residents in two predominantly Black neighborhoods from expedited Prime delivery services. The lawsuit claims that since 2022, Amazon has been providing slower delivery times to these areas, despite charging residents for Prime memberships that promise fast delivery. The affected ZIP codes cover large parts of Wards 7 and 8, where approximately 90% of the residents are Black or African American. Amazon has responded by stating that it switched to using third-party delivery services in these areas due to 'targeted acts' against its drivers, but the District Attorney General's Office alleges that Amazon misled customers about these changes.
