Captain Tom's Family Misled Public, Pocketed £1.5M from Charity, Damaging Trust
Nov 21, 2024, 06:12 AM
A report by the Charity Commission has found that the family of renowned pandemic fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore misled the public and personally benefitted from the Captain Tom Foundation. The inquiry revealed that Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Tom's daughter, and her husband enriched themselves significantly through the charity, pocketing £1.5 million from book payments and other sources that were expected to go to charity. The report highlighted a pattern of behavior where the family repeatedly put their private interests above the charity's mission, including demands for high salaries, building a pool in their garden, and a doomed spa block. This misconduct, uncovered in a two-year investigation, has damaged public trust in charities. David Holdsworth from the Charity Commission commented on the findings.
