Putin Outlines Conditions for Ukraine Ceasefire: Troop Withdrawal from Four Regions, NATO Renouncement
Jun 14, 2024, 10:37 AM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has outlined specific conditions for a ceasefire and peace negotiations with Ukraine. Putin stated that Russia would immediately cease fire and declare readiness for negotiations if Ukrainian troops withdraw from the entire territory of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Additionally, Kyiv must formally renounce its plans to join NATO. Putin emphasized that this proposal is not about freezing the conflict but bringing it to a definitive end. He also mentioned that if the West and Kyiv refuse the proposal, the responsibility for continued bloodshed would lie with them. Furthermore, Putin stated that Russia would guarantee the safety of withdrawing Ukrainian forces and highlighted the need for the new territorial reality to be internationally recognized. The conditions also include the removal of Western sanctions, a neutral, non-aligned, demilitarized, and denazified Ukraine.
