Brooklyn's 'Bling Bishop' Sentenced to 9 Years for Fraud, Extortion; Ordered to Pay $85,000 Restitution
Jun 17, 2024, 06:20 PM
Bishop Lamor Whitehead, known as the 'Bling Bishop' and a self-described mentee of NYC Mayor Eric Adams, has been sentenced to nine years (108 months) in federal prison. Whitehead, the politically connected Brooklyn pastor, was found guilty of multiple scams, including defrauding a parishioner's mother out of her life savings, attempted extortion, and making false statements to the FBI. Prosecutors said he was a career con man who took millions, which he spent on cars, clothes, and jewels. Judge Lorna G. Schofield, who presided over the case, noted that Whitehead's testimony at trial was contrary to the evidence. In addition to his prison sentence, Whitehead was ordered to pay $85,000 in restitution and will face three years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence.
