Four Russian Journalists on Trial in Moscow for Extremism Charges Linked to Navalny, Face Six Years
Oct 2, 2024, 05:05 PM
Four Russian journalists have gone on trial in Moscow on charges of involvement in an extremist group. The journalists, Antonina Favorskaya, Konstantin Gabov, Sergei Karelin, and Artyom Kriger, are accused of working for an anti-corruption group founded by the late Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny. The trial, which began on Wednesday, is being held behind closed doors. If found guilty, the journalists could face up to six years in prison. The charges stem from their alleged work covering Navalny’s life and death in prison, with one of the journalists, Antonina Favorskaya, having recorded the last publicized video of Navalny alive. Favorskaya and Kriger worked for SOTAvision, Gabov and Karelin collaborated with Reuters and AP, and one journalist was associated with Republic.
