Former NY Gov. David Paterson and Stepson Attacked by Teens After Fire Escape Confrontation
Oct 5, 2024, 10:30 AM
Former New York Governor David Paterson, 70, who is legally blind, and his stepson, 20-year-old Anthony Sliwa, were attacked by a group of teenagers on Manhattan's Upper East Side Friday evening. The incident occurred along 2nd Avenue when Paterson, his stepson, and their dog encountered the teenagers climbing a fire escape. After they asked the teens to stop, the assailants, reportedly three in number, assaulted them. Both Paterson and his stepson were injured and hospitalized at NY Cornell Medical Center. Anthony Sliwa is the son of radio personality Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels and a former mayoral candidate who ran against NYC Mayor Eric Adams in 2021. A spokesperson indicated that the assailants had a previous interaction with the stepson. The NYPD is investigating the incident, and the attackers remain at large.
