US Increases Rewards for Maduro, Cabello to $25 Million, Adds Sanctions
Jan 10, 2025, 04:14 PM
The United States on Friday increased the reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to $25 million, the maximum allowed by US law, coinciding with his widely disputed inauguration for a third term. The bounty for Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello was also raised to $25 million, up from $15 million, and a new reward of $15 million was offered for Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López. The State Department released official wanted posters with the updated rewards. Additionally, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed new sanctions on eight Venezuelan officials linked to key economic and security agencies, including the president of the state oil company PDVSA, for their roles in repression and human rights abuses. The US, along with allies such as the European Union, United Kingdom, and Canada, does not recognize Maduro's presidency and continues to escalate pressure on his regime through increased sanctions and rewards.
