Invasive Shothole Borer Beetle Detected in San Jose, Threatens Bay Area Trees
Aug 25, 2024, 08:51 PM
An invasive beetle, known as the shothole borer, has been detected in the Bay Area, specifically in San Jose. This pest is notorious for attacking over 65 tree species in California and has already killed tens of thousands of trees in Southern California. The beetle introduces a fungus that disrupts the trees' ability to transport water and nutrients, leading to their death. South Bay officials are warning residents about the potential damage this beetle can cause to the region's trees. It has killed more than 17 tree species.
