South Lake Tahoe Adopts Ordinance Barring Combustible Materials Near Homes in Fire-Prone Areas of California
Jul 16, 2024, 04:05 PM
California fire officials are drafting new regulations to prohibit most plants, mulch, and other combustible materials within five feet of homes in fire-prone areas of the state. South Lake Tahoe has become the first city in California to adopt such an ordinance ahead of the statewide rules. This month, South Lake Tahoe will begin enforcing what appears to be the strictest ordinance in the state for the 5-foot zone closest to homes. The new regulations aim to reduce the risk of wildfires by minimizing flammable materials near residences.
