U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, a Democrat, has won the Delaware U.S. Senate race, defeating Republican Eric Hansen. Blunt Rochester's victory is historic as she becomes the first woman and the first African American to represent Delaware in the Senate. Additionally, she is the third Black woman elected to the Senate and the fourth to serve in the Senate overall. She succeeds retiring Senator Tom Carper. Blunt Rochester was previously the first Black Democratic House member to transition to the Senate.
