Genetic Study Identifies 95 PTSD Risk Loci, 43 Causal Genes
Apr 21, 2024, 03:29 PM
A recent genetic study has identified 95 regions of the genome associated with the risk of developing PTSD. This study, conducted by the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium in collaboration with Cohen Biosciences and other partners, marks a significant advancement in psychiatric genetics. Out of these loci, 80 were previously unknown, underscoring the rapid discovery phase in genomic studies of psychiatric conditions. Additionally, researchers pinpointed 43 potentially causal genes for PTSD, further enhancing the understanding of its genetic underpinnings. The study involved the analysis of genetic data from over 1.2 million individuals, making it the largest study on PTSD to date.
