VisitSpanish King and Queen Pelted with Mud by Angry Flood Survivors in Valencia
Nov 3, 2024, 01:37 PM
On Sunday, King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, along with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, faced angry protests during their visit to flood-stricken areas of the Valencia region, including the town of Paiporta. The region has been devastated by unprecedented floods that have killed more than 200 people. Residents threw mud, rocks, and rubbish at the king and prime minister, shouting insults such as 'killer' and 'assassin', and calling for abdication and resignations. The protesters accused the authorities of negligence, mismanagement, and abandonment during and after the disaster. Despite braving the hostile crowd, the king attempted to engage with the people, but the visit was eventually cut short, and the prime minister and other politicians were evacuated.
