Lavin passed away on Sunday due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer, as confirmed by her representative. She was actively involved in the entertainment industry until her passing, having recently promoted her new Netflix series 'No Good Deed' and filmed episodes for the upcoming Hulu series 'Mid-Century Modern.' Lavin's career spanned over seven decades, marked by her iconic portrayal of Alice Hyatt, a widowed mother and aspiring singer working at Mel's Diner in the series 'Alice,' which aired from 1976 to 1985. Her role in 'Alice' not only earned her an Emmy nomination but also made her a symbol for working mothers. On Broadway, Lavin won a Tony Award for her performance in Neil Simon's 'Broadway Bound' in 1987 and received multiple Tony nominations throughout her career. She is survived by her husband, Steve Bakunas.
