ECI Reports Record $557 Million Seizure Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

In the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported unprecedented levels of cash and goods seizures. A total of Rs 4,650 crore (approximately $557 million) has been confiscated since March 1, marking a significant increase from the 2019 elections. This amount includes Rs 1.34 crore in unaccounted cash found in three cars in Bengaluru South. The ECI highlighted that this is the highest-ever seizure in the 75-year history of Lok Sabha elections, with Rs 100 crore being seized daily since the start of March.
