Archaeologists have unearthed a large and sophisticated private bathhouse in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, marking a significant discovery described as a 'once-in-a-century' find. The bathhouse, located in the Regio IX area, is believed to be one of the largest private thermal complexes ever found in the city, which was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The complex, built 2,000 years ago and capable of accommodating up to 30 people, features a series of hot, warm, and cold rooms, along with a large plunge pool. The bathhouse was part of a grand residence thought to belong to a member of Pompeii's elite, and its proximity to a banquet hall suggests it was used to entertain and impress guests, showcasing the wealth and social status of its owner. Excavations also uncovered gold coins and pearl earrings, with the walls adorned with scenes from Greek mythology.
