Google has officially launched the Android XR platform, a new operating system designed for extended reality (XR) devices, including headsets and smart glasses. The announcement was made during a launch event in New York, where Google revealed its collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm in developing the platform, which aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) functionalities. Samsung is expected to be among the first manufacturers to release devices powered by Android XR, with a model codenamed Moohan anticipated in the near future. Additionally, Xreal, a Chinese consumer augmented reality glasses maker, has partnered with Google to jointly develop the Android XR ecosystem. The platform is set to provide developers with access to advanced features such as camera and eye tracking capabilities. Google aims to ship devices as early as next year, enhancing the XR experience for users and developers alike.
