Northwest Naturals Recalls 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe Pet Food Due to H5N1 After Cat Dies; Sold in 12 States
Dec 25, 2024, 10:30 PM
Northwest Naturals, a Portland-based pet food company, has issued a voluntary recall of its 2-pound Feline Turkey Recipe Raw & Frozen pet food due to contamination with the H5N1 bird flu virus. This action follows the death of an indoor cat in Oregon, which contracted the virus after consuming the affected food. The Oregon Department of Agriculture confirmed the link between the cat's death and the pet food, prompting health officials in Los Angeles County to warn residents against feeding their pets raw food. The recalled product has been sold in 12 U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington, as well as in British Columbia, Canada. Consumers are advised to discard any product with sell-by dates between May 21, 2026, and June 23, 2026.
