WCC Expands, Adds Grand Canyon and Seattle U Starting July 2025
May 10, 2024, 04:53 PM
The West Coast Conference (WCC) is set to expand by adding Grand Canyon University (GCU) and Seattle University as new members, effective July 1, 2025. Both universities, currently competing in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), have accepted invitations to join the WCC. This expansion is seen as a strategic move for the WCC, enhancing its presence in major media markets and increasing its competitive stature, especially in basketball where GCU has made significant strides with three NCAA tournament appearances since 2021 and Seattle University coming off three straight 20-win seasons. The announcement was confirmed through multiple sources and a press release from GCU, which also noted that a formal Zoom conference call is scheduled at noon to discuss the details of the expansion. This expansion follows the departure of BYU from the conference.
