WCC to Include 13 Teams in 2025-26, Adds Grand Canyon U and Seattle U
May 10, 2024, 11:05 PM
The West Coast Conference (WCC) will expand to include 13 teams for the 2025-26 season, with the addition of Grand Canyon University and Seattle University. This move, confirmed by WCC and supported by Gonzaga, aims to enhance the conference's competitiveness and market reach, particularly into the Seattle and Phoenix TV markets. Stu Jackson, WCC Commissioner, highlighted Gonzaga's support throughout the expansion process, despite their previous recruitment by other conferences. The WCC's current composition includes a mix of Jesuit and non-Catholic institutions. Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh, also chair of the WCC Presidents’ Council, expressed support for the expansion. The league will play an 18-game schedule in 2024-25, and the possibility of a 20-game schedule is under consideration for 2025-26. The WCC evaluated 43 schools for potential inclusion, ultimately inviting Grand Canyon University and Seattle University.
