However, three Republican representatives, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, and Keith Self of Texas, voted for alternative candidates, Tom Emmer, Jim Jordan, and Byron Donalds respectively, leaving Johnson short of the required majority.
