Keir Starmer Nominates 30 New Labour Peers Including Sue Gray, Aims to Address Political Imbalance in House of Lords
Dec 20, 2024, 03:02 PM
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has nominated 30 new Labour peers to the House of Lords, including Sue Gray, his former chief of staff who was previously known for her role as the Partygate investigator. Gray resigned from her position in October amid internal rows. The list also includes former Labour MPs such as Thangam Debbonaire, Julie Elliott, Lyn Brown, Steve McCabe, and Kevin Brennan, as well as former Welsh first minister Carwyn Jones. Additionally, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch nominated six new peers, including former Deputy Prime Minister Dame Thérèse Coffey and former housing minister Rachel Maclean. The Liberal Democrats also added two new peers to the list. This move aims to address the political imbalance in the House of Lords, where no party currently holds a majority.
