PRF Agents Suspended After Shooting 26-Year-Old Woman En Route to Christmas Dinner
Dec 25, 2024, 02:53 PM
A 26-year-old woman, Juliana Leite Rangel, was shot in the head during an interaction with Brazil's Federal Highway Police (PRF) on Christmas Eve in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. The family was heading to a Christmas dinner when their car was mistakenly fired upon by PRF agents on the BR-040 highway. According to the mother, "There were more than 30 shots." The father was also injured, stating, "I thought it was bandits shooting, because a police officer wouldn't do that." Juliana remains in critical condition at the Adão Pereira Nunes Hospital. The PRF has removed the agents involved from duty, and the Federal Police have opened an investigation into the shooting.
