Sweden Ends Funding to UNRWA, Redirects 800 Million Kronor to Gaza Aid
Dec 20, 2024, 07:07 AM
Sweden announced it will cease funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and will instead provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza through other channels, Aid Minister Benjamin Dousa said on Friday. The decision was reported by Swedish TV4 and other media outlets. The Swedish government has allocated 800 million kronor to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the region. Sweden will continue to support the response in Gaza through substantial core contributions to several key humanitarian actors. Despite ending support for UNRWA, Sweden will continue to aid Palestinians in Gaza via alternative means.
