Marisa Paredes, Almodóvar Muse and Goya Honoree, Dies at 78

Spanish actress Marisa Paredes, acclaimed for her performances in films directed by Pedro Almodóvar, has died in Madrid at the age of 78. Paredes, who appeared in six of Almodóvar's films and was considered one of Spain's most distinguished actresses, passed away early Tuesday after feeling unwell the previous evening. Her career spanned decades, featuring prominent roles in films such as 'High Heels' and 'The Flower of My Secret.' In 2018, she received the Goya of Honor for her lifetime achievements. Paredes was also recognized for her commitment to political and social causes, having served as president of the Spanish Academy of Cinema and being an outspoken advocate for democracy and civil rights. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his condolences, highlighting her significance in Spanish culture. Paredes is survived by her daughter, actress María Isasi, and her long-time partner, Chema Prado.
