Istanbul's İSKİ Fined 1.3 Million Lira for Discharging Wastewater near Kuleli Military High School
Jan 16, 2025, 11:00 AM
The Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change has imposed a fine of 1 million 337 thousand 354 lira on the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), which is affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). This penalty was issued after İSKİ was found to have discharged wastewater into the Marmara Sea near Kuleli Military High School in Üsküdar. The ministry's investigation was prompted by reports of pollution in the area. Düzce Mayor Faruk Özlü highlighted the issue, stating that the maintenance of the Melen basin, which is under İSKİ's responsibility, has not been adequately managed, resulting in sewage contaminating Istanbul's drinking water supply.
