All 43 Monkeys Recaptured from Alpha Genesis in South Carolina Using Peanut Butter and Jelly
Jan 24, 2025, 11:47 PM
All 43 monkeys that escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center in Yemassee, South Carolina, in November have been recaptured. The last four female rhesus macaques were caught after living in the woods for two months, surviving a rare snowstorm, and were lured back into captivity with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The monkeys escaped due to an employee's mistake in not fully locking their enclosure. Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard confirmed that all recaptured monkeys appeared to be in good health.
