French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot Under Investigation for Embezzlement and Conflict of Interest
Jan 13, 2025, 10:33 AM
Philippe Tabarot, France's newly appointed Transport Minister, is under preliminary investigation for alleged embezzlement of public funds and illegal conflict of interest. The probe, initiated by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office following a report from the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life in July 2021, focuses on Tabarot's roles within the public interest group for tourism and culture and as a communications officer for the municipality of Le Cannet, Alpes-Maritimes, from 2018 to 2020. Le Cannet, a town of 40,000 residents, was previously led by his sister, LR deputy Michèle Tabarot. A search was conducted at Tabarot's residence and the offices of Le Cannet's town hall and the public interest group on November 30, 2022. The investigation remains ongoing.
