Macron Appoints New French Government With 34 Ministers, Including Lombard as Economy Minister
Dec 23, 2024, 06:02 PM
French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed a new government under Prime Minister François Bayrou, marking the fourth cabinet reshuffle of 2024. The new government, comprising 34 ministers, includes former Prime Ministers Elisabeth Borne and Manuel Valls, with Borne taking the role of Minister of Education and Valls as Minister for Overseas Territories. Eric Lombard, previously the director general of the Caisse des dépôts, has been named Minister of Economy and Finance. Gérald Darmanin, former Interior Minister, is now the Justice Minister, while Bruno Retailleau continues as Interior Minister. The cabinet also retains Jean-Noël Barrot as Foreign Minister and Sébastien Lecornu as Defense Minister. The reshuffle comes as Macron seeks to address the country's political crisis and manage its economic challenges.
