Iran Urges Syrian-Led Future Post-Assad, Warns Against Libya-Like Foreign Interference
Dec 8, 2024, 01:01 PM
Following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's government in Syria, Iran's Foreign Ministry and Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council, emphasized that Syria's future must be determined solely by its people without destructive interference or foreign imposition. Rezaei warned that foreign exploitation could lead to a repetition of the scenarios seen in Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Iran reiterated its respect for Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, calling for national dialogue involving all segments of Syrian society to form an inclusive government representing all Syrians. Tehran affirmed it would spare no effort to help establish security and stability in Syria, an influential country in the region. It stressed the importance of protecting religious holy sites and diplomatic missions and called for ending conflicts and preventing terrorism. Iran expects its relations with Syria to continue based on mutual interests and adherence to international legal obligations.
