Ichiro Suzuki has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, becoming the first Japanese and Asian player to receive this honor. The announcement was made on January 21, 2025, marking a historic moment for baseball in Japan and Asia. Suzuki, who played most of his career with the Seattle Mariners, received 99.7% of the votes, falling just one vote short of unanimous selection. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 27, 2025, alongside CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner. Suzuki's career in Major League Baseball (MLB) included 3,089 hits, and when combined with his 1,278 hits from his time in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league, he amassed a total of 4,367 hits, surpassing Pete Rose's MLB record of 4,256 hits.
