Iran to Reopen Damascus Embassy with HTS Securing Premises
Dec 17, 2024, 07:14 AM
Iran is preparing to reopen its embassy in Damascus. Iranian ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, stated that the embassy will resume operations once security is ensured, noting that the embassy had no assets remaining. Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is reportedly securing the embassy and has pledged to facilitate the resumption of consular services. The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that reopening requires necessary security arrangements and stressed that Iran did not support any specific person, group, or party in Syria. Officials expressed hope for a peaceful transition that preserves Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, highlighting Iran's historical relationship with Syria and stating that Iran's presence was advisory and responsible.
