SpaceX to Deploy Free Starlink Terminals in LA Tomorrow Amid 55 Wildfires and 100,000 Evacuations
Jan 9, 2025, 02:30 PM
SpaceX, led by CEO Elon Musk, has announced plans to provide free Starlink terminals to areas affected by wildfires in Los Angeles starting tomorrow morning. The initiative aims to offer internet access to residents and emergency services in regions where traditional communication infrastructure has been compromised by the fires. Musk's announcement follows reports from TV news crews relying on Starlink for live coverage due to the absence of cell service in the affected areas. Over 55 wildfires are currently raging in Southern California, leading to the evacuation of more than 100,000 people. Additionally, Starlink is offering one month of free service to those impacted by the wildfires, as well as free kits to agencies, organizations, and shelters involved in response and recovery efforts.
