U.S. Unveils $988 Million USAI Aid for Ukraine, Delivering HIMARS Ammunition and Drones by Mid-January
Dec 7, 2024, 09:44 PM
The United States has announced a new $988 million military aid package for Ukraine under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The package includes ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), unmanned aerial systems, artillery shells, missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles. The Department of Defense confirmed that the aid aims to bolster Ukraine's defenses against Russian aggression and includes equipment and spare parts for repairing tanks and armored vehicles, as well as sustainment support for current systems. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan pledged that the United States would deliver hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles to Ukraine by mid-January. This package represents nearly half of the $2.21 billion remaining under the USAI, signaling the U.S. commitment to accelerate support for Kyiv.
