Jan 17, 2025, 08:14 AM
A Pakistani accountability court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to 14 years in prison and fined him PKR 1 million in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust land corruption case. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was also convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison with a fine of PKR 0.5 million. The verdict was delivered by Judge Naser Javed Rana at the court held in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. Following the conviction, Bushra Bibi was arrested in the courtroom. The case involves allegations that Khan and his wife accepted land as a bribe from property tycoon Malik Riaz in exchange for facilitating the transfer of laundered money. Khan has announced plans to challenge the verdict.
