Imran Khan Gets 14 Years, Wife Bushra 7, in £190 Million Corruption Case
Jan 17, 2025, 07:20 AM
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined PKR 1 million on Friday after being found guilty of corruption in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was also convicted, receiving a seven-year prison term and a fine of PKR 0.5 million. The verdict was delivered by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. Following the conviction, Bushra Bibi was arrested from inside the courtroom. The court also ordered the Al-Qadir University Trust to be handed over to the federal government. The case revolves around allegations that Khan and his wife accepted bribes and misused their authority in dealings related to the Al-Qadir Trust, involving a land corruption scheme linked to £190 million in funds. After the verdict, Khan stated that he would not seek any relief and would face his cases, saying, "Today's verdict has tarnished the reputation of the judiciary." The conviction marks a significant legal blow to Khan, who has been embroiled in multiple legal challenges since leaving office.
