British-Israeli Hostage Emily Damari Freed by Hamas After 471 Days in Kibbutz Kfar Aza
Jan 20, 2025, 09:22 AM
British-Israeli citizen Emily Damari, aged 28, was released by Hamas on Sunday after 471 days in captivity. She was among the first three hostages freed as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Damari, who was kidnapped from her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7, 2023, sustained injuries during her abduction, losing two fingers to gunfire. Upon her release, she expressed immense joy at being reunited with her family, particularly her mother Mandy Damari, who had campaigned for her daughter's freedom. Emily's mother stated that Emily is in much better health than anticipated and highlighted her daughter's resilience and charismatic personality. Emily herself shared her happiness on social media, stating she has 'returned to her beloved life.' The ceasefire deal also facilitated the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners. However, 94 hostages remain in captivity, and efforts are ongoing to extend the ceasefire to secure their release.
