US Announces $500 Million Ukraine Aid Ahead of Presidential Transition
Dec 13, 2024, 08:24 AM
The United States has announced a new $500 million military aid package for Ukraine, as confirmed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The package includes ammunition for HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, drones, armored vehicles, HARM anti-radiation missiles, counter-UAV munitions, MRAPs, and equipment for protection against chemical, biological, and nuclear threats. This follows recent aid packages of $988 million and $725 million announced earlier this month. Additionally, the US is providing over $440 million in economic assistance to Ukraine. The aid comes at a critical time before the transition of power in the US, with President-elect Donald Trump set to take office. The Pentagon aims to transfer a significant amount of weapons to Ukraine in the next five weeks, attempting to complete deliveries before President Joe Biden leaves office.
