Toronto Blue Jays Sign Switch-Hitter Anthony Santander to Five-Year, $92.5 Million Deal with Club Option
Jan 20, 2025, 06:09 PM
The Toronto Blue Jays have secured a significant addition to their roster by signing free agent outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year contract worth $92.5 million. The deal includes a club option for a sixth year in 2030, which could increase the total value to $110 million. Santander, who previously played for the Baltimore Orioles, set career highs in 2024 with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 91 runs scored. The 30-year-old switch-hitter, who made his first AL All-Star team last season, will join the Blue Jays' lineup alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. The signing comes after the Blue Jays missed out on other high-profile free agents like Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto. Santander's contract includes an opt-out clause after the third year, though the Blue Jays can override this by exercising the club option. The deal also features a $13.5 million signing bonus and deferrals.
