Michael Hopkins, communications director for Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police on Monday morning at approximately 8:45 a.m. after ammunition was discovered in his bag during security screening at the Cannon House Office Building. According to police, the bag contained four ammunition magazines, including a high-capacity magazine, and 11 rounds of ammunition. Hopkins reportedly told officers he forgot the ammunition was in his bag. No gun was found in the bag. He faces charges for unlawful possession of ammunition, as he did not have a license valid in Washington, D.C.
