Freeman F. Martin was sworn in as the new Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) on Monday morning, December 2, 2024. Governor Greg Abbott administered the oath during the ceremonial swearing-in. Martin, a former Texas Ranger and DPS Deputy Director, becomes the 14th director of TxDPS and is the first Texas Ranger to ascend to this role. He succeeds retiring Executive Director Steve McCraw, marking a significant leadership change for the department after 15 years.
