29-Year-Old Olympic Sprinter Fred Kerley Tasered and Arrested After Confrontation With 4 Officers in Miami Beach Thursday Night

Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley, 29, was arrested in Miami Beach following a confrontation with four police officers at around 11:22 PM on Thursday night. The incident occurred when Kerley approached an active police scene on the 100 block of 9th Street, expressing concern about his parked vehicle nearby. According to police reports, Kerley became aggressive and argumentative, refusing to leave when asked, which led to a physical altercation where he pushed a cop. Officers used a dart-firing stun gun, striking Kerley in the back, to subdue him after he resisted arrest. Kerley was booked into Miami-Dade County Jail at 4:07 AM on Friday morning and faces charges of battery on a police officer, resisting an officer without violence, and disorderly conduct. His girlfriend was also charged with resisting an officer without violence. The incident occurred shortly after Florida's Halo Law, which establishes a 25-foot buffer zone around first responders, went into effect. Kerley, a two-time Olympic medalist, won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze medal in the same event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
