Amazon to Close Quebec Warehouses in Two Months, Shifting to Third-Party Delivery Model
Jan 22, 2025, 03:34 PM
Amazon.com Inc. has announced the closure of all its warehouses in Quebec, Canada, resulting in the elimination of 1,900 jobs, including 1,700 permanent employees and 250 temporary workers. The decision comes after a review of its operations in the province, with the company stating it will revert to a third-party delivery model supported by local small businesses over the next two months. This move is not related to the recent unionization of employees at one of its warehouses in Laval, Quebec, according to Amazon spokesperson Barbara Agrait. The closures will affect seven operation sites, including one fulfillment center, two sorting centers, three delivery stations, and one extra-large delivery station. The company plans to offer impacted employees up to 14 weeks of pay and transitional benefits, including job placement resources.
