Austrian Chancellor and ÖVP Leader Karl Nehammer Resigns After Failing to Form Government
Jan 4, 2025, 07:02 PM
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced he will resign in the coming days as both Chancellor and Chairman of the conservative People's Party (ÖVP) after failing to form a coalition government. The decision follows the collapse of negotiations with the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and the prior withdrawal of the NEOS from talks two days earlier. Nehammer, who has led Austria since 2021, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakdown in talks.
